ICC calls on climate ministers ahead of COP31 to set the conditions for business to deliver

In an open letter ahead of COP31 in Antalya, ICC Secretary General John W.H. Denton AO calls on governments to put economic strategy at the centre of climate ambition and lay the groundwork for a delivery plan. The letter sets out three priorities: accelerating the clean energy transition through electrification and energy efficiency, making adaptation a political and economic priority and setting a new climate finance trajectory that mobilises private capital at scale. Business, ICC argues, must be at the table as a co-architect of solutions.

Business calls on COP17 to turn nature pledges into clear policies and investable action

In a statement delivered on behalf of business at the High-Level Segment of the United Nations Biodiversity Conference COP17, ICC urged negotiators to move from commitments to action. Businesses increasingly recognise nature loss as a material economic risk and are increasingly integrating nature in core decision-making processes, but scaling up business action requires clear policy signals, credible implementation pathways and investable outcomes. As the first global review of collective progress, COP17 is also an opportunity to enable business action at scale to meet the ambition of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

Electronic Bill of Lading adoption grows as focus shifts to interoperability  

Joint statement on the results of the 2026 global survey on electronic Bills of Lading (eBL) by the FIT Alliance, co-founded by ICC, BIMCO, DCSA, FIATA and Swift. Conducted in partnership with Shanghai Maritime University and the Digital Supply Chain Institute (DSCI), the survey finds that the majority of respondents now use eBLs in some capacity and identifies interoperability as the defining challenge of the next phase of adoption.

Keeping rules of origin aligned with changing tariff codes

Outdated tariff codes can make it harder for businesses to benefit from free trade agreements. This ICC policy paper sets out practical recommendations to keep rules of origin – the criteria used to determine where a product is made and whether it qualifies for trade preferences – aligned with updates to the global system used to classify traded goods, known as the Harmonized System. Doing so helps preserve negotiated trade commitments and reduce compliance costs for businesses.
