Preparations for 2013 Russia G20 Business Summit launched in Moscow

Preparations for the 2013 Russia G20 Business Summit were initiated Wednesday in a meeting hosted by Alexander Shokhin, President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP).

Mr. Shokhin, who has been designated by Russian President Vladimir Putin to to organize the Business Summit, was joined by over 50 Russian and international companies, the B20 Coalition of national business federations and key international business groups including the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), International Organization of Employers (IOE), the World Economic Forum (WEF) and International Business Leaders Forum-Russia.

“The G20’s agenda impacts business priorities for growth and employment and warrants our engagement and the contribution of business recommendations,” said ICC Secretary General Jean-Guy Carrier. “We aim to help Russia build on the progress achieved in Seoul, Cannes and Los Cabos.”

Mr Carrier, representing global business, led a delegation of companies from the ICC G20 Advisory Group, including Shell, Repsol, GDF Suez, Eskihisar Group, Nestle, Siemens, Dow Chemicals, Telefonica, Schneider Electric, Hanwha Group, and The McGraw Hill Companies.

The launch meeting in Moscow featured keynote speeches from leading Russian CEOs, including Alexey Mordashov, CEO of Severstal, Kirill Dmitriev, General Director, Russian Direct Investment Fund, and Andrey Bougrov, Chairman of the Board, Norilsk Nickel.

Business leaders began the process of outlining their collective views on key issues on the G20 agenda, which were conveyed to them by Russian G20 Sherpa Ksenia Yudaeva. The role of a G20 Sherpa is to ensure continuity from one G20 presidency to the next and from one administration to the next.

Russian priorities for the 2013 Summit include: trade; investments and infrastructure; restoring confidence in Financial System; global priorities for innovation and development; job creation and investments in human capital; transparency and anticorruption.

CEOs from the ICC G20 Advisory Group will take part in the various task forces being convened in preparation for the Business Summit set for Saint Petersburg, Russia in June 2103, ahead of the G20 summit being held 5-6 September, 2013.
