ICC’s World Chambers Federation announces new Council
The World Chambers Federation (WCF) of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has announced the results of elections for its General Council. Chambers from over 100 countries voted for 20 representatives to serve on the leadership group for the 2020-2022 term.
Led by Hamad Buamim, WCF Chair and President and CEO of Dubai Chamber, the General Council is responsible for defining the strategic direction and development of WCF services. It works to promote and reinforce chambers of commerce as facilitators of global trade and drivers of local private sector development and sustainable growth.
Chamber leaders from local, regional and national chambers were eligible to run for the General Council. The governing body includes members and executives from all parts of the world, representing developed and developing countries, standing for both large and small chambers that are either public or private law based. Each will serve for a three-year term and has the opportunity to run twice.
In addition, 12 other members have been invited to join as co-opted representatives. This measure ensures that the governing body is representative of the diversity of the global chamber community. Four transnational chambers holding memorandums of understanding and cooperation agreements with ICC have also been invited to join the Council.
