ICC and the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) have joined forces once again to hold the annual ICC-FIDIC Conference. The highly regarded event, which gathers the world’s leading construction practitioners, will kick off on 29 June in New Delhi, India.

Construction projects tend to be complex and long-running—not to mention the fact that they typically involve a number of parties and factors. Up against these challenges, it is no wonder that the industry has earned itself a reputation for being one of the most conflict and dispute-ridden. According to 2015 ICC Court statistics, construction and engineering disputes accounted for a quarter of all cases received that year alone.

With so much happening within the sector, it is imperative that practitioners who deal with international construction contracts and disputes remain informed. The upcoming ICC-FIDIC conference aims to provide participants with a timely update of the latest industry trends and developments, deliver real-world insight and specialist knowledge, as well as offer an exclusive networking platform for the international construction community. This year’s programme will focus on Asia.

Day one of the conference will be tailored around FIDIC forms of contract. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of topics from the key features of FIDIC’s newly updated Yellow Book, to the advantages of FIDIC contracts in Asia, to an expert look at the future FIDIC conditions of contract for underground works, as well as a detailed overview of the effective use of Dispute Boards.

The final day of the conference is centred on ICC Arbitration in construction matters. With a review of the changing arbitration environment in India, lessons on how to expertly use the freshly enforced ICC Expedited Rules, a report on ICC Court activities on FIDIC awards and answers to issues surrounding multi-party and multi-contract uses in Asian construction arbitration, participants will benefit from expertise on the tools required to properly bring, defend and avoid disputes.

Together, the conference’s sessions will grant participants the opportunity to hear the industry’s most knowledgeable experts on strategies, perspectives, successes and best practices pertaining to construction contracts and the methods commonly deployed to resolve construction and engineering disputes. The line-up of dynamic and well-established professionals includes such names as Abhinav Bhushan, the ICC International Court of Arbitration’s South Asian Regional Director; Abhijit Mukhopadhyay, President and General Counsel at Hunduja Group; Aisha Nadar, a FIDIC Executive Committee member and Chair of the Procurement Policy Sub-Committee; and Charles Nairac, a partner at White & Case and a member of the FIDIC-ITA Task Group 10.

The ICC-FIDIC Conference also lends itself to a number of networking opportunities. Whether connecting participants via the ICC Events app before or during the event, engaging in the interactive panel sessions or exchanging experiences with fellow industry peers during the various social events, there are many occasions to take advantage of to create a meaningful professional network.

With just under a month to go, the final days of registering for the ICC-FIDIC Conference are quickly approaching. To learn more about the event or to secure your place, please visit our dedicated event page.
