In collaboration with ICC WCF, the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has organized seminars in Oran, Algiers and Annaba from 11-13 March. The seminars will be conducted by Xavier Fetter, ATA Carnet Manager at the Paris Region Ile-de-France Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and are intended to inform Algerian economic operators about ATA Carnets and how these international customs documents allow the temporary duty and tax-free export and import of goods.
The ATA Carnet is a passport for goods which removes the need for exporters to provide customs authorities with the otherwise necessary guarantees required for goods to cross borders. More than 160,000 ATA Carnets are issued worldwide every year for goods valued at US$ 20 billion. From computers to prehistoric relics, Carnets cover all kinds of goods including commercial samples, professional equipment, sports goods, goods for fairs and exhibitions. Carnets are in force in 72 countries, with the recent addition of Albania.
The ATA Carnet system, administered by the Brussels-based World Customs Organization and ICC WCF, facilitates international trade and provides companies with a cost effective tool to reach new markets for their products. The ATA Carnet system relies on a guarantee chain comprising chambers and business organizations that have been appointed by their national Customs authority to issue and guarantee Carnets.
