The role

We are currently recruiting a Counsel to join the Secretariat of the ICC International Court of Arbitration (the Court) and lead one of our case management teams based at our ICC office in São Paulo, Brazil. 


 
The role of Counsel involves managerial, legal and administrative tasks including: 

  • Day-to-day management of a team of the Secretariat administering a significant volume of arbitrations under the ICC Arbitration Rules; 
  • Providing neutral information to arbitrators and parties on procedural issues arising in the course of arbitration cases administered by the ICC Court and its Secretariat; 
  • Corresponding with parties and arbitrators on all aspects of case administration; 
  • Reviewing draft arbitral awards and presenting them to the ICC Court for scrutiny; 
  • Preparing memoranda (and reviewing draft memoranda prepared by the Deputy Counsel) briefing the ICC Court for its decisions; 
    Participating in the sessions of the ICC Court; 
  • Reviewing and processing documents filed by parties, arbitrators and others during arbitrations

 

At the invitation of the Secretary General, Deputy Secretary General or Managing Counsel, the Counsel may also prepare notes or articles for publication, represent the Secretariat at conferences and related activities or undertake other special tasks.

Ready to join us?

Requirements

We would love to hear from you if you: 

  • Are a qualified lawyer with at least six years of relevant professional experience in international arbitration, either in recognized law firms in Brazil or abroad, or other international organizations; 
  • Are well organised, have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work effectively in a multicultural team; 
  • Native level of Portuguese and excellent oral and writing skills in English; other languages such as Spanish are an advantage; 
  • Ideally have experience managing a team and/or in project management. 
  • Have the legal right to work in Brazil.
