Continued success for ICC Advanced Arbitration Academy
The ICC Advanced Arbitration Academy for Central and Eastern Europe concludes in Paris today after a series of eight workshops that occurred every three months, over the past two years in Istanbul, Prague and Paris.
The comprehensive one-day workshops, which began on 28 March 2014, were moderated by Vladimir Khvalei, a partner at Baker & McKenzie, Vice-President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration (the Court) and member of the ICC Institute of World Business Law along with David Goldberg, a partner at White & Case and member of the ICC Institute of World Business Law and Galina Zukova, an attorney at White & Case and a former counsel of the ICC International Court of Arbitration. They were joined by key experts who spoke of their experiences, provided advice and coached the participants through a series of applicable situations and mock arbitral hearings.
Backed by the ICC Institute of World Business Law and the ICC Court, the Advanced Arbitration Academy is an unparalleled professional training programme specifically for arbitrators that allows participants to acquire a strong command of arbitration procedures and techniques on an international level.

The ICC Advanced Arbitration Academy is without a doubt the most comprehensive and compact, practice-oriented programme in arbitration proceedings, tailored for arbitration practitioners.
During the Academy participants performed various tasks that arbitrators typically handle in real ICC arbitrations. Additionally, workshop topics included: Appointment as an Arbitrator, Jurisdiction of the Tribunal, Case-management, Provisional Remedies and Security for Costs, Evidence, Hearing, Award, Scrutiny, Notification of the Award, Enforcement and many other important issues related to the main stages of the arbitration proceedings from an arbitrator’s point of view.
During the closing ceremony in Paris at the Hôtel des Arts et Métiers, 41 participants from 14 countries will be presented with their end of course certificates.
The programme proved to be an excellent networking opportunity that enabled the group to create strong and lasting connections. Programme moderator, Mr Khvalei said: “I am very pleased with our participants’ efforts over the course of the two years. They are a committed group of professionals who have not only gained extensive knowledge but have also made meaningful connections that will help propel their careers as arbitrators.”
Following the success of this year’s Academy, the course will be carried on to the MENA region and Turkey in 2016, (registrations have just opened), as well as Latin America.
