Business considerations for a multilateral mechanism for benefit sharing from Digital Sequence Information

ICC is committed to contributing business views and perspectives to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) negotiations to develop a multiple benefit sharing mechanism for the use of genetic sequences and related information in innovation. ICC is calling for a system that supports research and innovation while furthering CBD goals of biodiversity conservation, sustainable use, and benefit sharing. This requires the system to be simple, workable and affordable, provide legal certainty – including with respect to how obligations under different legal frameworks will work together – and be aligned with scientific and business realities.
