Institute Prize
Why you should submit your thesis for the ICC Institute Prize
You are writing a doctoral dissertation or long essay of at least 150 pages about international commercial law? Share your work for a chance to win the 2023 ICC Institute Prize… and €10,000.
The competition is open to anyone aged 40 years of age or under. All works competing should be a minimum of 150 pages in length, drafted in English or French, unpublished and completed less than two years prior to the date of submission.
Submitted works must be about international commercial law, including arbitration. Last year’s ICC Institute Prize Laureate Brooke Marshall wrote her thesis on “Asymmetric Jurisdiction Clauses”.
Those wishing to enter can submit an electronic copy of works and a cover letter until 3 April 2023 to iccprize@iccwbo.org. The winner will be announced and presented with the prize and a check for €10,000 at the ICC Institute of World Business Law Annual Conference, which will take place in December 2023 in Paris.
Here are three reasons why you should participate.
1. Get recognition within an international network
All entries to the Prize are reviewed by a jury comprising nine Council members of the ICC Institute. What’s more, winners of the Prize will be presented at the ICC Institute Annual Conference, our annual event that is set to be held in Paris in December 2023.
Nayla Comair-Obeid, Chair of the ICC Institute Prize Jury said: “Since 1979, the ICC Institute of World Business Law has been a pillar for the dissemination of knowledge in the fields of international business law and international commercial arbitration worldwide. The Institute has been and will remain a hub for business and educational opportunities in an increasingly fast-paced global economy.
“By enhancing ties between the legal profession, business executives and academics, the Institute has created an innovative forum for the development and betterment of the practice of international business law and will certainly continue to thrive in the future,” she added.
2. Showcase your innovative solutions
Since its inception more than 40 years ago, the ICC Institute of World Business Law has strengthened links between the academic world and legal professionals. The ICC Institute Prize offers young academic minds from all over the world the opportunity to share their research in an effort to help address the various legal issues that arise in international business today.
Reflecting on being a laureate of the sixth edition of the ICC Institute Prize Berk Demirkol said: “I am absolutely thrilled…that my manuscript has been granted this highly prestigious award by the esteemed members of the ICC Institute. It is thanks to this achievement that my opinions, as elaborated in my manuscript, will have the chance to reach a greater audience—and more importantly, to contribute to the literature on investment treaty arbitration.”
3. Did we mention you could win €10,000?
We know how difficult it is to write a thesis and realise the time and effort that have been dedicated to elaborating on your ideas. Thanks to our generous Prize sponsors, the ICC Institute will present the winner of the ICC Institute Prize with a check for €10,000.
