A key forum for understanding international commercial arbitration in Latin America, the annual Miami conference is one of ICC’s largest events, offering a line-up of top-class speakers and gathering 400 participants from 30 countries.

The conference is the most important gathering for the Latin American arbitration community and provides an indispensable update on developments in the region. The event will take place on 2-4 November with a series of sessions to be held around the theme “Theory, technique and practice of arbitration”.

Jan Paulsson, Professor of Law at the University of Miami, said: “ICC’s annual Miami conference has become the must-attend event for developments in international arbitration in Latin America and the Caribbean. For three days, old friends meet and new professional ties develop around a common passion for business and arbitration. It is undoubtedly a major networking opportunity for leading legal minds and key players in the region’s arbitration community.”

The event will open with an advanced-level training “Conduct of the proceedings and case management – the arbitrator’s perspective”, which will take place on 2 November 2014. A discounted registration rate is available for participants who wish to attend both the training and conference.

This year will also feature new concurrent technical sessions on construction and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) disputes. Cecilia Misu, Head of Project Task Force, Siemens AG, Germany, and Member of the ICC Institute of World Business Law, said: “These new sessions will allow participants to acquire technical and practical skills related to either construction or M&A disputes in an interactive learning environment.

“Participants interested in the construction session will learn more about dealing with notice and time bar provisions in the context of claims, avoiding multi-contract arbitration for construction projects, as well as the role of applicable law., she added.

The mergers and acquisitions session will focus on dealing with price adjustment disputes, the issue of pre-contractual liability, as well as the importance of pre-signing documents. Participants can therefore choose to sign up for the session that corresponds better to their interests.

The conference will be held in English, Spanish and Portuguese with simultaneous interpretation. Programmes are also available in the three languages.
