ICC will open its fourth annual two-day Masterclass on the Incoterms® 2010 rules at ICC Headquarters in Paris on 5-6 March 2014, providing participants with a clear understanding of the Incoterms® 2010 rules, eleven internationally accepted definitions and rules of interpretation for most common commercial terms, created and maintained by ICC.

Five learning-by-doing workshops will use recent, real-life scenarios, chosen by the facilitator according to the participants’ profiles, to provide a thorough understanding of Incoterms® 2010 rules within the broader context of an international sales transaction by combining theory with hands-on training.

First published in 1936, the Incoterms® rules clarify the tasks, costs and risks involved in the delivery of goods from sellers to buyers and have become the standard in international business rules setting.

“Because ICC created and maintains the Incoterms® rules, our training is the best place for international supply chain professionals to learn how and when to apply them,” said Emily O’Connor, Senior Policy Manager and Secretariat for the Incoterms® 2010 rules Drafting Group.

The two-day training programme will help participants:

  • to understand the fundamentals of each rule
  • to describe the main issues to be considered by buyers, sellers and carriers in order to secure a successful sales transaction
  • to describe what an Incoterms® rule does and doesn’t do in order to avoid dangerous mismatches
  • to ensure that payment in cash/against documents happens as smoothly as possible by avoiding unwelcome documentary discrepancies

“By illustrating Incoterms® rules theory with practice, our training has the ultimate goal of making participants comfortable with the finer points of the rules, to avoid possible misunderstandings and costly mistakes,” said Koen Vanheusden, Director at the Belgian Foreign Trade Agency, Chair of ICC Task Force on International Sales, and trainer of the 2014 Incoterms® Rules Masterclass.

Participants of the masterclass will also have the chance to take part in a one-day training session on ICC‘s Model International Sale Contract, which will take place on the day after the masterclass.

Both events are open to anyone involved in international trade supply chains, including contract negotiators or traders, export/import consultants and advisors, execution operatives in export companies and houses, logistics operatives with transport or shipping companies or with freight forwarders, trade finance officers in banks, export/import consultants and advisors, professionals working in finance and risk departments, in-house cargo insurance specialists with insurance companies, and legal advisors for any of the above.

Participants will receive a copy of the Incoterms® 2010 rules publication as well as a certificate of attendance.
