Nominations open for 2015 Oslo Business for Peace Award
The call for nominations for the 6th annual Oslo Business for Peace Awards, the highest global distinction for business accomplishments, was launched on World Peace Day on 21 September.
As Oslo Business for Peace Foundation partners, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), along with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN Global Compact, are currently seeking inspiring business leaders and entrepreneurs who combine ethical responsibility with business success. Last year’s edition attracted more than 100 nominees from 60 nations.
“We are delighted to be a partner of the Business for Peace Awards,” said ICC Secretary General John Danilovich. “ICC’s founding fathers were known as the “merchants of peace” and our mission to promote open trade and investment today remains steadfast.
“As the world business organization, ICC continues to show how ethical business conduct is not only good for business but good for global living standards and good for peace,” he added.
The independent jury that will choose honourees includes Nobel laureates Shirin Ebadi, Leymah Gbowee and Michael Spence. Awards will be handed out at a ceremony scheduled to take place in May 2015 in Oslo.
“The Oslo Business for Peace Award aims to create a better union between business and society, where each contributes to the other,” said Per L. Saxegaard, Chairman of the Business for Peace Foundation. “Our goal is to inspire business leaders to be businessworthy, to have them apply their business energy with the purpose of creating economic value that also creates value for society.
“With this goal in mind, we search the world for business leaders who are trailblazers in showing that a strong bottom line is compatible with the higher purpose of promoting societal progress. The honourees who have been selected by our independent committee of Nobel Prize recipients are all strong exemplars of this merit.”
Nominations from ICC’s global network in over 130 countries, as well as the worldwide network of chambers of commerce, can now be submitted online. The registration deadline is 15 January 2015.
Other partners of the event include the City of Oslo, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Global Compactt, and the International New York Times as the Global Media Partner.
