ICC Tunisia launch boosts ICC network in Africa
ICC has established a presence in Tunisia, with the official launch of ICC Tunisia in Tunis today. Reflecting ICC’s growing footprint in Africa, the new ICC national committee will bring ICC’s mission to make business work for everyone, every day, everywhere to Tunisia, while amplifying the voice of Tunisian business and chambers on the global stage.
The addition of ICC Tunisia brings the current number of ICC national committees to 91.
An inaugural conference on the Tunisian economy marking today’s launch featured the Secretary of State to the Minister of Economy and Planning, Samir Abdelhafidh, President of the Banking and Financial Council of Tunisia, Neji Ghandri as well as prominent members of the business and chamber communities.
Addressing participants in his keynote speech, ICC Secretary General John W.H Denton AO welcomed the expansion of ICC’s global network, highlighting the crucial role ICC national committees play in strengthening multilateral cooperation.
“This expansion comes at a critical juncture for the global economy, characterised by increasing geo-economic fragmentation, slow economic recovery, and tight financial conditions, all exacerbated by volatility and conflict,” he said.
“The strength of ICC lies in our network of national committees and chambers that enable business as a force for good. It is imperative that business takes the lead in making the case for international trade and strengthened multilateral cooperation, ” he added.
Mr Denton also thanked ICC Tunisia’s founding members, the Council of Banking and Finance, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tunis, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sfax, SBCI Mazars, the Chamber of Young Leaders, UTIC Group, AMEN Group and two distinguished arbitration lawyers.
ICC members help shape ICC policies and, through the national committees alert their countries’ governments to international business concerns. As such, ICC Tunisia will contribute to the delivery of ICC institutional objectives to enable business to secure peace, prosperity and opportunity for all.
