The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Photographic Award 2016, a celebration of exceptional photography in response to major global challenges, opens today. The theme for the second edition of the Award is #PeoplePlanet.

The launch coincides with the on-going United Nations (UN) High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, the UN central platform for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Award invites professional and amateur photographers to submit entries exploring the relationship between humanity and our natural environment. This interplay is central to the UN post-2030 development agenda and many of the world’s most pressing and intractable problems – from the protection of endangered species to the on-going immigration crisis.

The UN SDGs are the broadest, most ambitious development agenda ever agreed at the global level. The ICC Photo Award is a chance to visually capture how to end poverty, fix climate change and tackle inequalities.

ICC Secretary General John Danilovich is currently attending the High-Level Political Forum in New York City. He said: “The UN SDGs are the broadest, most ambitious development agenda ever agreed at the global level. The ICC Photo Award is a chance to visually capture how to end poverty, fix climate change and tackle inequalities.”

Mr Danilovich will chair a distinguished international jury who will judge photo submissions and award the following two prizes:

  • First prize: €5,000
  • ICC Young Photographer of the Year (26 years and under): €2,000

The ICC Photographic Award was inaugurated in 2015 at COP21, the UN conference on climate change. The first edition, which aimed to stimulate dialogue around the global challenge of climate change, attracted over 1,000 submissions from photographers in over 60 countries.

Submission deadline for the ICC Photographic Award 2016 is 28 October. Enter the contest now!
