ICC Institute of World Business Law to focus on Class and Group Actions in Arbitration
The ICC Institute of World Business Law will gather practitioners interested in the practice, study, and development of international business law and international commercial arbitration at its 35th Annual Meeting.
Under the topic of “Class & Group Actions in Arbitration”, the ICC Institute of World Business Law will gather practitioners interested in the practice, study, and development of international business law and international commercial arbitration.
Yves Derains, Chairman of the ICC Institute of World Business Law and Founding Partner of Derains & Gharavi, will open the event which will be co-chaired by Bernard Hanotiau, Partner at Hanotiau & van den Berg and Eric A. Schwartz, Partner at King & Spalding.
The event will be the occasion for legal experts to deliberate on the topical issue of class and group actions in arbitration and to reflect on new practices in this domain. Starting from the definition and scope of the question, the discussion will consider class arbitration in North America and collective arbitration in Europe as well as mass arbitrations in international investment cases. The conference will end with a round-table discussion on the future of such arbitrations and the award ceremony of the 2015 Institute Prize.
Speaking on the theme of this year’s edition, Eric Schwartz, Vice-Chair of the ICC Institute, said: “The possible use of arbitration as a means of resolving class and group claims has seen renewed interest in recent years. The conference will, therefore, offer an opportunity for legal experts to discuss the many issues that have arisen in relation to this cutting edge topic and to consider the lessons learned from experience of such cases.”
Starting from the definition and scope of the question, the discussion will consider class arbitration in North America and collective arbitration in Europe as well as mass arbitrations in international investment cases.
Bernard Hanotiau added: “The Institute is building on the success of previous years, when participants gathered together not only to be at the forefront of discussions with thought leaders in the field of world business law, but also to be part of a vibrant and dynamic group of practitioners.”
The meeting will be held in French and English with simultaneous interpretation and is open to all professionals involved in international trade and dispute resolution: lawyers, arbitrators, judges, academics, corporate counsel and compliance officers. Participants are eligible for six CPD and CNB hours, as well as six MCLE Credits and seven CLE Credits.
The proceedings will be published in the ICC “Dossiers of the Institute” series and a complimentary copy of the publication will be sent to all those who register for this event.
The special early-bird rate for registration expires on 25 September 2015.
