Due to popular demand, another edition of the Masterclass for Arbitrators will take place in Paris on 18-20 May 2015.

The event is organized by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Institute of World Business Law, a prestigious think-tank that provides research, training and information to international business law professionals.

Covering all fundamentals of international arbitration, the course will consist of presentations and interactive discussions using case scenarios designed to hone participants’ understanding of critical theoretical concepts while also emphasizing many practical aspects involved in conducting an international arbitration. Participants will also gain a deeper insight into some of the provisions of the 2012 ICC Rules of Arbitration.

Alan Thambiayah, Professional Arbitrator, The Arbitration Chambers, Singapore; Member, ICC Institute of World Business Law said: “Every year, the ICC Institute Masterclass offers a unique opportunity for trainees from all over the world to acquire first-hand knowledge about the latest developments and best practices related to serving as an arbitrator.

In keeping with its commitment to excellence, ICC has recruited some of the world’s leading practitioners and scholars as lecturers for this important event.”

Mr Thambiayah will chair the Masterclass and speak at a session on how arbitrators must establish their authority over the parties, during which participants will learn how to create a suitable framework for an arbitration right from the start and deal with issues related to the characteristics or behaviour of the parties. A mock Court session on the scrutiny of awards by the ICC International Court of Arbitration will also be demonstrated.

Every year, the ICC Institute Masterclass offers a unique opportunity for trainees from all over the world to acquire first-hand knowledge about the latest developments and best practices related to serving as an arbitrator.

This advanced-level training is designed primarily for practitioners who have significant experience in international commercial arbitration as counsel, but who have little or no experience as arbitrators. Arbitrators wishing to reinforce their knowledge may also participate. Attendees are expected to have already mastered the essentials of arbitral proceedings and ICC Arbitration, as these will not be reviewed during the Masterclass.
