ICC co-sponsors Economist report on business and human rights
The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has supported a new report published this week by the Economist Intelligence Unit which shows that a large majority of executives believe human rights are a matter for business, not just for governments.
The road from principle to practice: Today’s challenges for business in respecting human rights finds that 71% of business leaders say that their firm’s responsibility to respect human rights goes beyond simple obedience to local laws.
Viviane Schiavi, Senior Policy Manager of the ICC Commission on Corporate Responsibility and Anti-corruption, said: “ICC is building on wide support received from business to advance the dissemination and implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
We remain firmly committed to promoting the role business can and should play in respecting human rights and have been actively engaged in the mandate of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on business and human rights from the outset of his work.”

The paper’s research and findings are based on a global online survey of 853 senior corporate executives carried out in November and December 2014, extensive desk research and nine in-depth interviews with independent experts and senior executives of major companies.
