The ICC Institute of World Business Law is to bring its acclaimed Masterclass for Arbitrators to Hong Kong for the first time since its creation.

Participants of the ICC Masterclass, 7-9 March 2013, will learn from some of the world’s leading practitioners and scholars on international commercial arbitration, a field that has flourished in Asia over the last decade. The condensed two and half day Masterclass will consist of presentations and interactive discussions using mock cases designed to hone participants’ understanding of the fundamentals and best practices related to serving as an arbitrator.

Those attending will also have the opportunity to gain a deeper insight into some of the new provisions of the 2012 ICC Rules of Arbitration.

“The Masterclass will give participants an opportunity to learn first-hand about the latest developments and best practices in serving as an international arbitrator,” said Karyl Nairn, Vice-President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration and Chair of the Masterclass. “The programme structure also offers participants an excellent opportunity to develop helpful contacts within the global arbitration network.”

The Masterclass’s advanced level training is designed primarily for practitioners who have significant experience in international commercial arbitration as counsel,
but who have little or no experience as arbitrators. Arbitrators wishing to reinforce their knowledge may also participate.

The ICC Institute of World Business Law acts as a think tank and works closely with the ICC International Court of Arbitration. The Institute, created more than 30 years ago, is made up of 44 members from 23 different nationalities, who are all leading professionals or academics in international business law or international commercial arbitration.

The Masterclass will be given in English and hosted by the law firm Herbert Smith Freehills in Central Hong Kong. Those wishing to apply will need to submit a Curriculum Vitae upon registering and candidates will be accepted depending on experience.
