In-house counsel, mediators and other dispute resolution specialists, have less than a week remaining to benefit from ICC’s early-bird rate for its world launch conference to unveil ICC’s new Rules of Mediation, which are set to come into effect on 1 January 2014.

The half-day international conference will take place on 4 December 2013 at the Hotel de Talleyrand in central Paris and will highlight important changes to the Rules that will replace the ICC ADR Rules, in force since 2001. Discounted ‘early-bird’ registration rates are available until 14 November 2013.

“ICC has adapted its Mediation Rules to keep pace with today’s business needs,” said Hannah Tümpel, Manager of the ICC International Centre for ADR that will oversee the application of the new Rules. For professionals using or considering using mediation, the launch conference is an apropos opportunity to acquire a comprehensive understanding of the main provisions and converse with members of the task force which drafted the new Rules.

The Rules have been revised by a taskforce comprising members from close to 100 countries. Members included mediation users, mediators, counsel and other dispute resolution specialists in more than 25 countries.

Compared to other forms of dispute resolution procedures, mediation is rapid and economical. Appealing to business users, mediation usually enables parties to resolve even complex, international disputes within one or two mediation meetings. The involvement of a trained mediator enables the parties to overcome stale mates they often encounter in direct negotiations. It is a voluntary procedure that allows parties to decide on the exact terms of their settlement ensuring that their business interests are taken into account and that they achieve an outcome which respects their financial, legal, reputational and future-business interests.

Conference registration is open to all participants and is recommended for any legal and business professionals who would benefit from understanding the nature, purpose and operation of the new Rules prior to their entry into force next year. The event will take place in English and feature presentations by and interactive discussions with some of the world’s leading experts in the field of mediation and dispute resolution. Company representatives will also illustrate the relevance of mediation from the user point of view.
