  • 16 September 2011

Chambers of commerce play an important role in supporting trade and development, ICC World Chambers Federation Vice-Chairman Mustafa Mansur told delegates at the opening ceremony of the 2011 Beijing International Conference of Friendly Chambers of Commerce Conference.

The event, organized by the Beijing Chamber of International Commerce (BCIC)/China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Beijing Sub-council (CCPIT Beijing), took place 14-16 September.

Held under the theme of ‘cooperation, development and win-win outcomes’, the conference featured discussion topics pertinent to the chamber community. These included ‘synergy of chambers of commerce amidst economic globalization’ and ‘innovative service models for sustainable development’.

“Chambers exist in almost every country of the world and offer a multitude of programmes and services to support trade and development,” Mr Mansur said. “Cooperation between chambers can help resolve problems currently facing the international trading community.”

WCF has long enjoyed a strong partnership with CCOIC/CCPIT particularly in the areas of ATA carnets and Certificates of Origin trade documentation.

During the conference CCPIT Chair Wan Jefei led a series of roundtable discussions with Mr Mansur and fellow chamber leaders on the role of chambers of commerce in urban, social and economic development; the synergy of chambers of commerce in the background of economic globalization; as well as their responsibility to enhance the global reputation of their metropolises.

At the end of the conference, WCF joined other participating chambers of commerce from around the world in signing a consensus on cooperation with the aim of strengthening cooperation for mutual benefit and jointly promoting sustainable and healthy development of the global economy.
