Upholding merits of arbitration focus of ICC Institute annual gathering

Featuring a welcome address by Yves Derains, Chairman of the ICC Institute and an introduction by Bernard Hanotiau, Co-Chair of the 2011 Annual Meeting alongside Alexis Mourre, the meeting will consider the duties that different arbitration actors have towards others. Participants will deliberate how to ensure smooth functioning of the arbitral tribunal, and consider the challenges arbitral institutions have to contend with.

The relationship between counsel and clients, reciprocal duties of institutions and arbitrators, the future institutions’ liability and finding the balance between immunity and liability are among the topics slated for discussion at this year’s gathering. The meeting will conclude with an engaging debate between arbitrators, counsel, corporate lawyers and arbitral institutions, and a summary of the day’s reasoning.

Entitled Players’ Interaction in International Arbitration, the conference will take place at the Salons Hoche in Paris on Monday 28 November. A special early-bird rate is available until 8 October.

An award ceremony to present a €10,000 cheque to the winner of the 2011 edition of the ICC Institute Prize, which recognizes legal writing excellence in the field of international commercial law will wrap up the day’s activities and cogitations.

The ICC Institute of World Business Law proposes trainings, conferences and publications on a range of topics related to international business law and acts as a think tank, working closely with the ICC Court of Arbitration and ICC policy commissions. Drawing together the finest legal minds to strengthen links between international business and the legal profession, the Institute’s Annual Meeting is an opportune occasion for legal experts to deliberate an issue pertinent to current practice.

Resulting doctrine is compiled in an annual publication as part of the ICC Dossiers of the Institute series.
