Representatives from the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) World Chambers Federation (WCF) attended the gathering and reaffirmed close links between the two organizations. The event was held at Expo Reforma in Mexico City from 28 September to 1 October 2014.
The assembly included a comprehensive programme focused on exchanging experiences and strengthening cooperation between chambers of commerce and business leaders in the Iberoamerican region. Over 70 chambers of commerce attended the event including representatives from Argentina, Colombia, Spain and Uruguay.
Speaking on behalf of the Torino Chamber of Commerce, Giovanni Pischedda, Head of International Affairs, extended the chamber’s invitation to the ICC WCF 9th World Chambers Congress, which will be held in Torino on 10-12 June 2015. “We were very delighted to meet with our Latin American colleagues and offer them more information on how to better organize their delegations for the Congress,” he said.
“I hope countries from the region will have a consolidated presence at the event and will share their best practices with delegates coming from over 120 countries,” he added.
Lorenzo Ysasi, Director General at the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Invest and Technology (COMCE) and WCF Vice-Chair spoke on the importance of the two organizations to optimize their services and ensure improved chamber products. He said: “It is vital to strengthen the international chamber community by connecting chambers and businesses around the world to exchange best practices and valuable know-how. WCF is committed to reinforcing ties between chambers in view of the challenges facing nations today and the 2015 Congress will certainly be a unique opportunity to do so.”
During the opening ceremony, Miguel Angel Mancera, Head of Government of the Federal District, acknowledged that working with business is essential to the economic growth of Mexico City and the creation of better conditions for its residents.
ICC-WCF and AICO have been working in close collaboration for 35 years since the establishment of a Working and Cooperation agreement in 1979. Both organizations hold the conviction that using their respective networks can strongly support chambers and enable them to benefit from the innovations and partnerships with chambers in other regions of the world.
