ICC urges cross-sector collaboration at UNIDO event

As part of UNIDO’s Network for Prosperity initiative, the open dialogue focused on environmental sustainability and green industry in middle-income countries (MICs) and the role of private sector development in steering this process. It also focused on the prioritization of cross-sector knowledge networks as tools for improving policy effectiveness and economic governance in fostering inclusive economic development within MICs.

Ms Kantrow in her speech highlighted the main points of the ICC Green Economy Roadmap report by emphasizing the organization’s dedication to innovative cross-sector collaboration that engages all relevant stakeholders in delivering sustainable solutions in a globally connected world.

“Today’s collective sustainability challenge requires all actors, whether business, government or civil society to accept shared responsibility and shift towards more collaborative and solutions-oriented thinking,” said Ms Kantrow. “Creating an enabling environment for enterprises of all sizes and sectors to share and exchange information – coupled with sound governance and policies to reduce barriers to international trade and foreign direct investment – opens a space for dialogue whereby best practices can be readily accessed by all.”

More than 70 delegates, including representatives from MICs and UN agencies attended the event which took place at the UN Headquarters in New York. The open dialogue’s second session, entitled a “High-Level Conference of Middle-Income Countries: The Role of Networks for Prosperity”, is scheduled to reconvene in Vienna 20-21 March 2013.
