ICC Secretary General appointed to UN Global Compact Board

Several former ICC secretaries general have held seats on the board of the Global Compact, an initiative encouraging companies to align their operations with 10 principles relating to human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.  “I am honoured to join the Global Compact Board and to be given this opportunity for ICC to contribute global business views on key corporate responsibility issues,” Mr Carrier said. “The Global Compact provides an invaluable platform for business to engage with the UN and other stakeholders to promote good corporate citizenship.” The Global Compact, with more than 8,700 corporate participants and other stakeholders from at least 130 countries, is the world’s largest voluntary corporate citizenship initiative. This practical framework for developing and implementing sustainable policies provides participants with resources for advancing sustainable business models and markets. The Global Compact Board is the UN’s highest-ranking advisory body involving business and civil society. In addition to providing strategic and policy advice for the Global Compact, the 23 board members also oversee implementation of the initiative’s integrity measures.
