ICC Court issues call for disability task force candidates

  • 7 July 2021

The International Chamber of Commerce has launched a global call for interested candidates to participate in a newly created Task Force on Disability Inclusion and International Arbitration, formed under the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR.

The call for expressions of interest to ICC’s wider network is the first measure undertaken by Claudia Salomon, just one week into her term as President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration.

Formally established in May upon proposal from Claudia Salomon to the Commission’s Steering Committee, the new Task Force on Disability Inclusion and International Arbitration seeks to ensure ICC’s dispute resolution services meet the needs of all practitioners.

With a view to producing a set of guidelines to enable disability inclusion in international arbitration, the task force will look at the ways in which ICC can accommodate or adapt for anyone in the international arbitration community with specific needs for the way they work.

Ms Salomon said: “As we emerge out of the pandemic, we have the opportunity to shape international arbitration for this new era.  To reflect the global business community, we must enable the active participation of all skilled practitioners, including those with disabilities. I encourage anyone interested in breaking boundaries in dispute resolution practice to submit their candidature for the task force.”

Chair of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR Carita Wallgren-Lindholm, who will directly appoint task force members not otherwise nominated by an ICC national committee, said: “The establishment of a task force on disability inclusion and international arbitration broadens the scope of ICC’s diversity and inclusion efforts to ensure dispute resolution works for everyone, everywhere.”

To participate in the task force, interested candidates are requested to send a statement of interest, no longer than one page, stating:

(i)            whether they have a disability, or

(ii)           are engaged in research or advocacy on disability inclusion, or

(iii)          if they wish to participate as an ally, and

(iv)          whether they seek a leadership role.

In addition, candidates are asked to provide their given name, surname, email address, position and current company/organisation.

The deadline for nominations/expressions of interest is 31 August 2021.
