ICC Competition Commission holds first Asian Antitrust Conference

Organized by the ICC Commission on Competition, the conference, scheduled to take place on 14 November 2013, presents a unique opportunity to hear first-hand from regulators and business about local initiatives.

Lee Ju Song, Regional Director of ICC Asia said: “Antitrust compliance is a business priority in Asia as a robust competition regime will enhance the attractiveness of the region for investment and trade and helps to even the playing field for business. As the voice of international business, ICC will bring a unique perspective to the exchange and will convey key messages drawn from the discussion to other international bodies shaping the international competition framework.”

The one-day conference to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, will open with a morning session on the practical tools and recommendations developed by the ICC Commission on Competition.   A workshop based on the newly released and highly acclaimed ICC Antitrust Compliance Toolkit, will be led by Anne Riley, Group Antitrust Counsel at Shell International and Chair of the ICC Task Force that developed the Toolkit. “We are very excited about this conference and the opportunity to present the ICC Antitrust Compliance Toolkit to our Asian colleagues. As Chair of the ICC Task Force on Compliance and Advocacy, I look forward to a fruitful discussion on local compliance issues and initiatives already in place,” said Ms Riley.

The afternoon will be devoted to a roundtable of business and competition agencies from Asia on priorities and challenges to antitrust policies in the region.

Commission Chairman Paul Lugard said: “The commission greatly values this occasion to have an honest exchange with antitrust experts from Asian countries and to use what we expect to be an insightful discussion to better promote the Asian perspective in our policy work at an international level. We view this exchange as crucial for the commission’s mandate looking forward.”
