ICC announces Mediation Competition semi-finalists

Of the 66 teams who initially set out to test their mediation advocacy skills in the presence of some of the world’s leading commercial mediators, only four remain in the running.

They are:
• Bar Ilan University (Israel)
• FGV Sao Paulo Law School (Brazil)
• South Texas College of Law (United States)
• University of New South Wales (Australia)

Featuring over 140 mock mediation sessions, based on real cross-border commercial disputes, the Competition has been putting the problem solving skills of law and business students from 35 countries to the test.

“The level of skills we have seen so far has been very impressive and is encouraging for the future of mediation,” said Hannah Tuempel, Manager, ICC International Centre for ADR. “We are amazed by the superb mediation advocacy, negotiation and communication skills shown by students from all around the world during the last four days. We are, of course, looking forward to seeing the levels of brilliance the semi-finalists will display tomorrow.”

Established by ICC in 2006, the Competition is the only international mediation moot worldwide and the highlight of ICC’s Mediation Week.

The Competition is ICC’s biggest educational event, made possible in 2012 with the support and sponsorship from various international companies, institutions, consultancy and law firms, including headline sponsor KPMG, Jones Day, Vinci Construction, Gide Loyrette Nouel, Clifford Chance, Siemens, CiArb, Squire Sanders Hammonds, Heuking Kuhn Luer Wojtek and Taylor Wessing. Prizes include a cash award, publication subscriptions and internships with some sponsors.
