We take you on a tour around the globe for a taste of what is coming up in 2016.
We are excited about our first arbitration conference in Mozambique at the end of the month. Organized by the ICC International Court of Arbitration with the Bar of Mozambique and ICC Portugal, the seminar will take place in Portuguese and provide a unique chance to gain knowledge and connect with like-minded professionals.
Comprising of an arbitration symposium and an ICC Institute training on international commercial arbitration, ICC Japan’s Arbitration Week will take place in Tokyo this coming September while Hong Kong is the location for the second ICC Asia Conference on International Arbitration in June featuring top-class speakers, dynamic roundtables, plenary sessions and networking opportunities.
ICC’s Global Debate, hosted by ICC Netherlands, is set to take place in March in The Hague and brings together prominent players from the business world, government and academia to discuss global developments and opportunities for international trade.
Back at ICC Global Headquarters in Paris, an ICC Institute level-1 training on International Contracts will offer an occasion to enhance the skills required to effectively negotiate and draft contracts while a free ICC Vis Pre-moot will take place in March for teams competing in the Willem C. VIS International Commercial Arbitration Moot.
Elsewhere in Europe, a multiple-perspectives approach and lively debate are guaranteed in Brussels at a conference on European Union Law and arbitration; a conference on International Construction Contracts and Dispute Resolution in Istanbul will see ICC join forces once again with the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC); alternative dispute resolution mechanisms will be put under the spotlight at a seminar in Madrid; Krakow hosts a second series of workshops on international arbitration; and International Dispute Resolution involving Russian and CIS Parties will be examined at a conference in London – this year’s host city for the esteemed annual Joint Symposium of Arbitrators, organized by the ICC Institute of World Business Law, is the School of International Arbitration at the Queen Mary University of London.
Middle East and North Africa (MENA)
Question: What is the best way to keep pace with the arbitration developments in the MENA region? Answer: At the fourth ICC MENA Conference on International Arbitration, which is scheduled to take place in Dubai in April. Growing in prominence each year, the insightful training and conference promises to keep arbitration professionals up-to-date with the latest developments in the field.
April will also see the launch of the ICC Advanced Arbitration Academy for the MENA region and Turkey. The Academy is made up of eight one-day workshops taking place in four countries over a two-year period. However, the course is limited to 40 participants. Any senior and upper mid-level arbitration practitioners who are considering pursuing a career as an arbitrator should submit their applications today!
Other events taking place in the region include an ICC Qatar conference on energy disputes and an ICC international arbitration forum in Jeddah featuring an ICC international commercial arbitration mock case study under the ICC Rules of Arbitration. Further understanding of ICC Arbitration through mock case study can also be gained at an ICC Lebanon sponsored arbitration forum in Jounieh in March.
North and Latin America
Anyone in or near New York who is interested in serving as an international arbitrator can catch the ICC Institute Masterclass for Arbitrators when it comes to town for the first time in February. The advanced-level training will give in depth insight into new provisions included in the ICC Rules of Arbitration and discuss the current developments and best practices related to serving as an international arbitrator.
What are the new trends and who are the newcomers to international arbitration? Find out at the seventh International Arbitration Congress that is to take place in San Jose, Costa Rica. Young arbitrators are also invited to discuss how technology in arbitration has revolutionized the practice of law at an ICC Young Arbitrators Forum event taking placed on the opening day of the congress.
Heading further south in March, the ICC PANARB 2016 and the Latin American Arbitration Association’s annual conferences will take place in Panama and bring together regional and international speakers, whose academic and professional experiences will provide a global view of current trends in international arbitration.
From Sao Paulo to Mexico City, the ICC Advanced Arbitration Academy for Latin America gets underway in August. The course runs over two years, helping successful candidates to develop practical skills from efficient drafting of contracts to effective case management.
And finally do not miss ICC’s annual Miami conference on international arbitration in November. With a first-rate line-up of speakers and plentiful opportunities for networking the dynamic event attracts over 500 participants from approximately 40 countries each year and has been described as “the most important gathering for the Latin American arbitration community.”
