A Brazilian spring for ICC Dispute Resolution Services

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) is organizing different events in Brazil during the month of May.

On 6 May, Andrea Carlevaris, Secretary General of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, and Ana Serra e Moura, Counsel of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, will be speaking at the 10th Rio de Janeiro International Arbitration Conference. Mr Carlevaris will address independence and impartiality of arbitrators’ issues, while Ms Serra e Moura will speak about the role, the application and the relevance of soft law in arbitration. The conference is coordinated by Dr Pedro A. Batista Martins and Dr. José Emilio Nunes Pinto, Vice-President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration.

As a prelude to the 10th Rio de Janeiro International Arbitration Conference, on 5 May, the ICC Young Arbitrators Forum (ICC YAF) will be organizing a free conference entitled “Arbitration and the judiciary: (potential) influences between each other”. Two panels will examine examine how the judiciary may influence arbitration and vice versa. Reference will be made to general issues in arbitration and to provisions of the Brazilian Arbitration Law and Procedural Code. Participants will have the opportunity to debate on the autonomy of the parties, the powers of the decision makers; the reasoning of the decisions and the objectives of the procedure and of the evidence. This conference, hosted by Tauil & Chequer Advogados, will be simultaneously transmitted in São Paulo by videoconference at the Tauil & Chequer Advogados offices.
