Amid growing hostility to free trade and open markets, ICC is seeking to make a positive case for trade as a driver of jobs, growth and opportunity.

#TradeMatters is a global campaign that aims to mobilise businesses the world over and counter today’s growing anti-trade narrative.

We’re not trying to suggest that the global trading system is perfect. That’s not what #tradeMatters is about. We simply think that any debate on the role of trade in today’s economy should be balanced and evidence-based.

Global trade is increasingly under attack in many of the world’s largest economies. What’s more, this anti-trade sentiment is already translating into protectionist policies. According to the Global Trade Alert initiative, 2015 saw the biggest rise in protectionist activity since the onset of the financial crisis—with an estimated 40% rise in trade barriers introduced compared to 2014.

It might not be popular to say it but trade matters. #TradeMatters aims to show you why.

Help us to reclaim the narrative around global trade: about why trade matters; about how the gains from trade are realized; about how trade can drive sustainable development; and about how concerns about trade’s disruptions can best be handled.
