ICC is the voice of global business in key intergovernmental forums. BASCAP works continually with international organisations to help them identify and take action towards better enforcement of intellectual property (IP).

BASCAP engages with the following international organisations:

BASCAP provides policy recommendations for consideration by these leading global economic governance forums with the aim of compelling greater attention to IP rights issues and better enforcement. ICC BASCAP has called for stronger IP rights enforcement in ASEAN, and has called for more cooperation to combat counterfeiting and piracy across Southeast Asia

EU Observatory on Infringement of IP rights
BASCAP holds a seat in each of the Observatory’s Working Groups, participates in the Observatory’s Annual Plenary and provides direct input on the Observatory annual work plan and multi-year strategic plan.

BASCAP is working with INTERPOL at the national government level to promote legislation to confiscate the proceeds of crime. BASCAP is a member of INTERPOL’s Intellectual Property Crimes Advisory Group (IIPCAG) and of the INTERPOL Intellectual Property Crime College Board of Advisors

Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)
BASCAP collaborated (and provided seed funding) for the OECD’s major study “The Economic Impact of Counterfeiting and Piracy”. Since then, BASCAP and the OECD continue to collaborate on updates of the study and are now partnering with the OECD Task Force on Countering Illicit Trade

UN Office on Counter-Terrorism, US Department of Homeland Security
BASCAP has been invited by a number of organisations to assist with illicit trade and security issues

BASCAP is urging member states to include anti-counterfeiting and-piracy strategies in national consumer protection efforts, including for online platforms. BASCAP recommendations are outlined in a report entitled Strengthening Consumer Protection – Measures to adapt the UN Guidelines for consumer protection to guard against counterfeiting and piracy.

The United Nations Interregional crime and Justice Research Institute published a joint report with BASCAP entitled Confiscation of the proceeds of IP crime and both organisations continue to work together with INTERPOL to organise seminars and promote model legislation.

United-States Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator (IPEC)
BASCAP has submited comments and recommendations to the Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator (IPEC) in response to a request for input from the public providing specific recommendations for accomplishing the goals of the joint strategic plan and for significantly improving the US Government’s IP enforcement efforts.

BASCAP participates in WIPO business advisory groups.

World Customs Organisation
Under a memorandum of understanding, BASCAP collaborates on stronger border control measures and strengthening IP enforcement in free trade zones.
