The role
Established in 2023 and guided by senior business leaders and founders, the Merchants of Peace Foundation was created by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the world’s business organisation, to build on a legacy of innovation in cross-border commerce for peace and prosperity. The Merchants of Peace Foundation seeks to harness the power of business to address global challenges, empower small enterprises and promote inclusive, sustainable economic development in fragile and emerging markets.
We are seeking a Partnerships and Development Lead to join our entrepreneurial team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in expanding our funding base and cultivating meaningful, trust-based relationships with a diverse, international community of donors and supporters.
As a key member of our growing organisation, you will take on significant responsibilities, directly contributing to the development and execution of a successful fundraising strategy. This role offers hands-on experience and a unique opportunity to shape and elevate our development operations, advancing the Merchants of Peace mission and strategic vision.
Responsibilities
- Define short- and long-term development strategies in close collaboration with the Head of Programmes, Head of Operations and President, implementing and monitoring efforts to achieve the Foundation’s growth objectives.
- Research and identify potential funding opportunities with corporates, HNWI and institutional donors aligned with the Foundation’s mission and priorities.
- Collaborate with the Foundation’s Board of Trustees and ICC teams to explore high-value engagement opportunities within their networks to diversify the donor base.
- Execute targeted outreach to potential donors, partners, intermediaries and other stakeholders to build trusted relationships and catalyse major funding opportunities.
- Develop compelling briefings, engagement materials, grant proposals and presentations.
- Manage the entire lifecycle of prospect and donor engagement, including due diligence, timely grant submissions, follow-up communications and reporting in accordance with requirements and expectations.
- Manage the planning and execution of events tailored to donor engagement and recognition.
- Stay updated on trends in relevant sectors and represent the Foundation at networking events to enhance its visibility and strategic positioning.
- Oversee and track priorities, deadlines, deliverables and donor journeys,
- Provide regular progress updates and contribute to quarterly reporting efforts to the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, highlighting achievements, challenges, opportunities and priorities in fundraising efforts.
- Shape and help build the Development function into a creative, resourceful and results-oriented team.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
- 6+ years' experience in philanthropy, business development or sales.
- Experience in prospect cultivation, direct engagement, grant writing, stewardship and reporting would be valued.
- At least 3 years in a managerial role within a corporate, start-up or non-profit environment.
- Proven track record in engaging high-profile stakeholders, managing a pipeline of prospects and securing seven- to eight-figure contributions or investments.
- Well-established professional network and a solid understanding of current trends in global funding markets across private sector audiences.
- Strong analytical, planning, management and presentation skills, with comfort in interacting with C-level executives and other high-profile stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. A working knowledge of French and other languages would be a plus.
- Self-starter with a creative mindset, adept at translating strategies into actionable priorities and driving results both independently and collaboratively within an entrepreneurial organisation.
