ICC joins Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty

ICC has become a founding member of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, established under Brazil’s G20 presidency. Through evidence-based policies, the Alliance aims to boost public-private collaboration to achieve lasting solutions to poverty and hunger worldwide.

Committing to the Alliance’s mission, objectives and principles, ICC is amplifying the urgent need to end poverty and hunger globally, and fully implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out in the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Commitment to Action

Despite significant efforts, the world is not on track to attain SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger). As a member of the Alliance, ICC has committed to support and scale integrated approaches and the implementation of policy instruments and programmes to eradicate hunger and poverty globally.

A purpose-led institution, working to enable business to secure peace, prosperity and opportunity for all, ICC acknowledges that hunger and malnutrition are direct consequences of poverty and inequality. ICC will support the Alliance by leveraging its unique expertise and network created with the ICC Agri-Food Initiative.

Established in 2022, the ICC Agri-Food Initiative serves as a platform to share knowledge and lessons learnt between public and private sector players in the agri-food space. Building on ICC’s Permanent Observer Status to the United Nations General Assembly, the ICC Agri-Food Initiative has developed a strong partnership with the UN Rome-based agencies specialised in food and agriculture – namely the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Food Programme (WFP), and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

As a founding member of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, ICC endorses a mission to support and accelerate efforts to eradicate hunger and poverty (SDGs 1 and 2) while reducing inequalities (SDG 10). The Alliance also aims to revitalise global partnerships for sustainable development (SDG 17) and achieve other interlinked SDGs, championing sustainable, inclusive, and just transitions.
