ICC Spain in collaboration with the Spain Chamber of Commerce hosted a seminar in Madrid on 27 January to present a Spanish version of the ICC Cyber security guide for business.

The seminar also shared best practices and offered advice for small- and medium-sized businesses on managing their approach to cyber security and mitigating threats posed by cybercrime.

The ICC Cyber security guide for business was developed in early 2015 by the ICC Commission on the Digital Economy as the first of its kind to be issued by an international business organization. It responds directly to the need for material specifically designed to help business management frame their cyber security discussions with information technology professionals – and vice versa – to put a collaborative and ongoing management approach in place

The Spanish version of the guide launched at the seminar in Madrid today is the result of the collaboration between ICC Spain, ICC Mexico and ICC Chile with the support of Telefonica. Tailored for small- and medium-sized enterprises, the seminar was opened by Jose Luis Bonet, President of the Spain Chamber of Commerce and Jose Manuel Soria, Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism.

Presenting the Spanish version guide Jordi Sellares, Secretary General of ICC Spain, said: “Security can be a daunting topic, so many documents and guidelines exist that it can be difficult to know what to start reading and what kinds of documents are appropriate to your organization. The ICC Cyber security guide for business helps overcome this fear and lack of awareness so that businesses of all sizes can evaluate risks and take suitable actions.”

The seminar also featured a presentation by Miguel Rego, Director General of the Spanish National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE), on the mapping of cyber security risks in Spain. A round-table discussion moderated by Manuel Carpio, Director of Information Security and Fraud Prevention at Telefonica was also held on the experiences and best practices of Spanish enterprises to confront cyber security risks.

The event concluded with a statement from Inmaculada Riera, General Director of the Spain Chamber of Commerce, who said: “Companies and individuals have to minimize the risks of cyberattacks. Investment in cyber security is not just a cost. It is a way to develop, grow and gain competitiveness. No growth is possible without security. ICC and Spain Chamber of Commerce are happy to raise awareness about that need, and supports SMEs in that task.”
