ICC partners with the Business and Climate Summit
The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) will join forces with major business networks for the Business and Climate Summit, a two-day meeting taking place at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris 200 days before landmark UN climate talks – known as COP 21 – are due to kick off.
Business is ready to contribute to meeting the climate challenge
Responding to call from UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for the private sector to take a more active role in the decarbonization process, ICC will join a host of global business leaders at the Business and Climate Summit in Paris on 20-21 May, 2015.
Terry McGraw, ICC Chairman and Chairman of McGraw Hill Financial and John Danilovich, ICC Secretary General, will be speaking at the Summit alongside leading international business players from all sectors, policymakers and top government officials.
ICC’s engagement in the run up to COP21 will ensure that the international business community has a voice in the development of a new climate treaty.
Mr Danilovich said: “Throughout the world, businesses of all sizes are implementing climate solutions. The Summit will showcase the progress made by the private sector in developing innovative technologies, processes, products and services to foster green growth. It’s now vital that business and governments work together to shape the right frameworks to help scale up these solutions.”
The role of business in shaping effective solutions
ICC’s involvement in the Business and Climate Summit forms part of ICC’s active involvement in the run-up to COP-21, at which a new global treaty on climate change is expected to be agreed.
Mr Danilovich added: “ICC’s engagement in the run up to COP21 will ensure that the international business community has a voice in the development of a new climate treaty. We also want to encourage the creation of effective engagement options for the private sector in the Paris 2015 outcome to help design and implement the new global climate framework.”
The Business and Climate Summit will be the cornerstone event of the Paris Climate Week (May 19-22), focusing on how to work together towards a low-carbon, prosperous and safer future for all.
Mr Danilovich will be available to respond to questions on the role of business in addressing the climate challenge during a live ‘webchat’ on climate policy hosted by the Climate Group. Scheduled to take place on Monday 11 May at 3.30pm Paris time, the chat will be conducted via the Climate Group’s twitter page using the hashtag #CWParis.
