ICC launches Advanced Arbitration Academies

  • 25 May 2023

Applications are now being accepted for four new ICC Advanced Arbitration Academies, equipping arbitration practitioners with the knowledge, skills and know how needed to pursue a career as an arbitrator.

Launched in line with the ICC International Court of Arbitration Centenary programme, the ICC Advanced Arbitration Academies will take place over 12 months from 2023 to 2024, covering  Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America and North America. Two more academies for Africa and the Middle East are scheduled for launch in 2024.

The academies deliver on ICC’s pledge to strengthen the disputes infrastructure globally through gold standard training and capacity building as set out in the ICC Centenary Declaration on Dispute Prevention and Resolution to shape the future of dispute resolution for the next century.

ICC Court Secretary General, Alexander G. Fessas said:

“Delivery of high-quality training and capacity-building across all regions of the world has long been associated with ICC and our recognition as the world’s most preferred arbitral institution. Building on the success of the previous Academies in pre-pandemic times, we are opening registrations to four new Academies today, with more to follow. We work to maximise the potential of the arbitrators of tomorrow and look forward to working closely with Academy participants throughout our centenary year”.

Focusing on ICC Arbitration, the academies have been developed by the ICC Institute of World Business Law  and will enable participants from different regions of the world to develop the skillsets required to act as arbitrators, in turn broadening the current network of arbitrators worldwide.

Ruslan Mirzayev, Head of Education and Training at ICC Dispute Resolution Services said:

Investing in legal and business communities through training and capacity building not only strengthens the practice and reach of arbitration and ADR worldwide but also helps to realise the potential of all. By fostering a culture of inclusion and diversity, we bring together professionals from different backgrounds and expertise to form a truly dynamic Arbitration Academy community”.

Each of the four Academies is co-chaired by renowned experts. They include Chiann Bao, Kap-You (Kevin) Kim and Matthew Secomb in Asia, Niuscha Bassiri, Beata Gessel-Kalinowska vel Kalisz and Galina Zukova in Eastern Europe, Stephan Adell, Cecilia Azar and Valeria Galíndez in Latin America, and Stephanie Cohen, James Hosking, Brian King and Jennifer Kirby in North America.
