ICC International Court of Arbitration announces Deputy Secretary General
Jose Ricardo Feris will succeed Simon Greenberg as Deputy Secretary General of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, in January 2012, ICC announced today.
Mr Feris, who is currently Managing Counsel of the Court and Secretary of the ICC Latin American Arbitration Group, will assume his duties at the end of January 2012.
“Jose will take over from Simon at a very exciting time for the Court, as we implement the 2012 ICC Rules of Arbitration,” said Jason Fry, Secretary General of the International Court of Arbitration. “Jose has made a valuable contribution to the work of the Secretariat over a number of years and is intimately acquainted with our practices and procedures. I am sure he will perform his new role equally well. It is important that we consolidate the changes we have introduced over the last four years’ work with the new rules to promote the efficiency of the arbitral process.”
Prior to joining ICC, Mr Feris served as a law clerk at the International Court of Justice in The Hague and worked for the Legal Advisor to the President of the Dominican Republic.
John Beechey, Chairman of the Court said: “I congratulate Jose on his appointment and look forward to working with him in his new capacity as Deputy Secretary General.”
Mr Feris holds a law degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in the Dominican Republic and an LLM in International Legal Studies from New York University. In addition to Spanish, his native language, Mr Feris speaks English, French and Portuguese.

This is a most exciting time at the Court, moving as we are from the 1998 to the 2012 Rules of Arbitration,” Mr Feris said. “I look forward to contributing in my new role to that transition, the adaptation of established procedures and the development of new practices.
