Arbitration and ADR Commission Chair Wallgren-Lindholm to step down
Carita Wallgren-Lindholm, Chair of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR has announced she will not seek to renew her mandate for a further term.
Ms Wallgren-Lindholm has led the work of the Commission since 1 January 2018. She had previously served as a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR since 1996, and as a vice-chair of the Commission since 2011.
A founding partner of the Finnish boutique law firm Lindholm Wallgren, Attorneys Ltd and a former board member of ICC Finland, Ms Wallgren-Lindholm also served as a member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration between 2012 and 2018.
Ms Wallgren-Lindholm said: “I look forward to witnessing the Commission’s continued thought leadership as it enters its new century, building upon its 100-year tradition and innovating as required by our times. Our new and visionary Court President Claudia Salomon’s inclusive leadership and her interest in the Commission as an integral part of ICC Dispute Resolution Services will be valuable to the Commission leadership going forward.”
Thanking Ms Wallgren-Lindholm for her service to the Commission and the ICC Court, ICC Court President Claudia Salomon said: “I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to Carita for her leadership and dedication to ICC and the entire global arbitration community. Carita is a trail blazer and someone I greatly admire. Her enduring commitment to the Commission’s work has contributed enormously to ICC’s recognition as the world’s preferred arbitral institution.”
Ms Wallgren-Lindholm will step down due to work commitments as a full-time arbitrator, a role she has undertaken since 2013.
Secretary General of the ICC Court and Director of ICC Dispute Resolution Services Alexander G. Fessas said: “Under Carita’s leadership, our collective understanding of diverse areas of interest – from climate change disputes to issues of corruption, emergency arbitration, and the use of ADR – has greatly expanded. We are grateful to Carita for her many contributions to ICC dispute resolution and her unfailing support”.
Under the Commission’s Terms of Reference, a new Chair will be selected from among the Commission membership. ICC National Committees and Commission members have been invited to nominate candidates by 15 October 2021. John Denton, Secretary General of ICC, will make the appointment upon recommendation by Claudia Salomon, President of the ICC Court, and Alexander G. Fessas, Secretary General of the ICC Court. The new Chair will be announced ahead of the Commission’s November meeting.
