External Engagement Manager – Office of the Secretary General (Paris)
We are currently looking for an experienced professional to support the Office of the Secretary General’s external engagement work.
As the institutional representative of over 45 million businesses in more than 170 countries, the International Chamber of Commerce operates with a core mission to “make business work for everyone, every day, everywhere”.
We act as the primary voice of the real economy in a range of intergovernmental organisations – from the World Trade Organization to the UN climate process – championing the needs of local business in global decision making.
The convening power of our global network enables us to set rules and standards that facilitate over $17 trillion dollars in trade each year – as well as providing tailored products and digital services that directly address the real challenges faced by businesses operating internationally.
We also provide the world’s premier private global dispute resolution services, leveraging ICC’s unique independence, integrity and expertise.
We are currently looking for an External Engagement Manager to support the Office of the Secretary General’s (SGO) external engagement work.
The role
You will report to the Chief of Staff and the main tasks will include:
- Advise and support the SGO on external engagement vis-à-vis national governments, regional and international organisations (e.g., ASEAN, APEC), and global governance fora (including G7 and G20).
- Support the Chief of Staff and the SGO’s external engagement staff in implementing ICC’s external engagement strategy, focusing particularly on Asian countries and organisations, with the aim to deliver measurable outcomes and impact.
- Proactively identify, secure and filter strategic opportunities for the Secretary General to meet with public and private sector leaders, working closely with the entire SGO.
- Work closely with the Chief of Staff and the SGO to facilitate the Secretary General’s external engagements. This involves leading preparations for certain meetings and international assignments of the Secretary General, attending some of these meetings and missions alongside the Secretary General and coordinating follow-up actions, with external stakeholders and with other ICC departments when required.
- Craft effective messages for the Secretary General – including briefings, talking points, speeches, opinion pieces – in coordination with relevant policy leads and the Global Marketing and Communications department.
- Advise and contribute to the development of the Secretary General’s schedule to ensure alignment and maximise external impact.
- Maintain deep expertise on international policy issues of relevance to ICC, as well as on regional and global developments pertaining to the external engagement focus areas.
Requirements
- Post-graduate degree (MBA, MPA or equivalent) with a focus on economics, political science, international relations or a related subject.
- A sound knowledge of business, international trade and world affairs.
- Over five years of experience in international diplomacy, public sector consulting or development agencies / Multilateral Development Banks, with a focus on economic analysis, public policy and strategy (relevant to the work of ICC).
- Proven experience in advising top level management as well as in working under intense pressure and delivering high-quality work within tight deadlines all while juggling multiple tasks and priorities.
- Strong, clear written and verbal communication skills and ability to tailor messages to the right audiences.
- Excellent soft skills – including cross-cultural sensitivity, team spirit – and collaborative approach towards other ICC departments and external network.
- Very good organisational and time management skills, with ability to work well on several projects at the same time and as part of a small team, under limited direct supervision, coupled with meticulous attention to detail.
- Project management skills and demonstrated ability to develop, implement and manage projects.
- Perfect fluency in English with superior writing skills (knowledge of additional languages would be an asset).
- Results and service-oriented attitude.
