145 chambers and business associations join call for WTO reform and Moratorium renewal
145 chambers of commerce and business associations have already joined an ICC Global Business Statement calling for a time-bound World Trade Organization (WTO) reform process and renewal of the e‑Commerce Moratorium at the WTO’s upcoming ministerial meeting (MC14). Failure to act, global business warns, will deepen fragmentation and raise the cost of doing business.

So far, 145 business organisations from every region in the world have joined a statement urging ministers at the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC14) to adopt a structured, time-bound reform plan to revitalise the multilateral trading system.
At a time of rising fragmentation and uncertainty, the statement stresses the urgent need to get the WTO negotiating, deliberating and settling disputes – and to ensure the system remains relevant to 21st century trade realities.
The statement also highlights an immediate priority at MC14, namely, to renew the Moratorium on Customs Duties on Electronic Transmissions. Allowing the Moratorium to lapse would introduce new uncertainty into global trade and risk undermining the ability of MSMEs to participate in cross-border e-commerce.
