Programme Manager – TradeRoots Africa (Consultant) M/F
Description
As the institutional representative of over 45 million businesses in more than 170 countries, the International Chamber of Commerce operates with a core mission to “make business work for everyone, every day, everywhere”. We act as the primary voice of the real economy in a range of intergovernmental organisations – from the World Trade Organization to the UN climate process – championing the needs of local business in global decision making. The convening power of our global network enables us to set rules and standards that facilitate over $17 trillion dollars in trade each year – as well as providing tailored products and digital services that directly address the real challenges faced by businesses operating internationally. We also provide the world's premier private global dispute resolution services, leveraging ICC's unique independence, integrity, and expertise.
The role
We are looking for a remote consultant to join ICC as Programme Manager leading the operational delivery of TradeRoots Africa – a legacy B20 initiative to help African SMEs become trade-ready, digitally-empowered, and ESG-compliant exporters through a three-tier model.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing the implementation of TradeRoots Africa across various trade corridors;
- Coordinating programme activities across three tiers (AfCFTA awareness, digital readiness, export acceleration);
- Managing relationships with delivery partners, chambers of commerce, and financial institutions;
- Ensuring timely reporting, budget adherence, and compliance with ICC governance standards;
- Supporting donor engagement and partnership development;
- Supervising programme staff and consultants, ensuring quality and timely outputs.
Requirements
The role requires strong project management skills, stakeholder engagement experience, and familiarity with SME development and trade facilitation in Africa.
We would love to hear from you if you:
- Have a minimum of four to five years of experience in programme management, preferably in trade, SME development, or international development;
- Have a strong understanding of AfCFTA, trade facilitation, and digital trade;
- Have a proven ability to manage multi-country projects and diverse stakeholders;
- Possess excellent organisational and communication skills;
- Are fluent in English (French or Portuguese being an advantage);
- Are based either in South Africa or Ghana, and are comfortable working in a remote structure with a geographically-dispersed team.
