Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2010 and its continuity

The UN World Summit on Information Society (Tunis 2005, Geneva 2003) created the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), a multistakeholder (government, business, civil society and technical community) forum for the discussion of “public policy issues related to key elements of Internet governance in order to foster the sustainability, robustness, security, stability and development of the Internet.” The IGF’s current five year mandate expires at the end of 2010.

ICC BASIS believes that the IGF is one of the most effective and successful outcomes of the SIS. The IGF inspires people to work effectively in support of people-centred development – a key goal of the WSIS. It promotes a global perspective on Internet policy issues, while also stimulating engagement in communities, in countries and in all regions.
