As the only private sector organisation with Observer status at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) is committed to championing the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
We believe it is vital to help bridge the knowledge gap between policymakers and innovators, to help implement solutions for the SDGs faster. This ICC report highlights concrete examples of how business can speed up the implementation of the SDGs in focus this year, under the theme “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies”:
Goal 6. Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all
Goal 7. Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
Goal 11. Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
Goal 12. Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
Goal 15. Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss
Goal 17. Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development, that will be considered each year.
ICC encourages the private sector to increase the pace and ambition of innovative actions for the SDGs, but also calls on governments to take action by implementing long-term policies, providing an adequate framework and incentives that business can rely upon to tackle the sustainable development challenges while also increasing competitiveness, creating jobs and promoting sustainable economic growth.
