Recognized for its important contribution to nurturing best practices in cross-border business mediation, the ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition is ICC’s biggest educational event and enjoys the support of practitioners, academics, law firms and corporations worldwide.
Comprising universities from 31 countries, the list of selected teams features debut representation from Georgia, Greece, Kosovo and New Zealand. The Competition, which has expanded and diversified participation every year since its inaugural run in 2006, also includes 18 universities entering the Competition for the first time.
The application procedure for professionals wishing to participate in the Competition has also closed, with the event’s Organizing Committee now tasked to select over 100 professionals from more than 25 countries, to contribute their expertise as mediators in the Competition mock mediation sessions or as Competition judges to evaluate and score performance.
Former Competition participant Bianca Simoes Stamato, who competed on behalf of FGV Sao Paulo Law School said: “Without any doubt, being part of the 7th ICC Mediation Competition was incredible; a life-changing experience. It gave me an opportunity to develop many skills which, as a student, would be otherwise impossible. Besides that, I had the opportunity to meet students from some of the best universities in the world, as well as exceptional professionals from whom I learned a lot.”
Staged annually by the ICC International Centre for Amicable Dispute Resolution (ADR), the Competition is the highlight of ICC’s Mediation week – a week of activities recognizing the merits of mediation as a dispute resolution technique.
“The ICC Mediation Competition repeats its magic year after year and is a unique learning event,” said Corrado Mora, a professional mediator from Italy who took part in the 2012 Competition. “The perfect organization and the very attractive venues make the sharing of experiences a rare, enjoyable occasion not to be missed.”
ICC Mediation Week promises inspiring discussions on new developments in alternative dispute resolution, with analysis of current issues and the opportunity to share experiences and meet with peers from more than 40 countries.
ICC Mediation Week will run from 7-13 February 2013, kicking off with ICC’s popular full-day International Mediation Conference entitled: “Stay in Control! Save time, risks and costs of commercial disputes with smart ADR”.
The ICC Mediation Week is made possible with the financial and/or in-kind support of several dispute resolution actors. Particular thanks goes to Headline Sponsor KPMG, Gold level sponsors Barreau de Paris, Clifford
Chance and Gide Loyrette Nouel as well as to the Main Supporting Institution, BCDR.
