Countdown begins for 6th World Chambers Congress
Malaysian Minister of International Trade and Industry, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin, launched today the one year countdown to the 6th World Chambers Congress to be held on 3-5 June 2009 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
“This is the first time the World Chambers Congress will be held in Southeast Asia,” said Tan Sri Yong Poh Kon, President of the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), to foreign ambassadors, sponsors and local chambers gathered at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Under the theme umbrella “Leading sustainable growth and change”, the 6th World Chambers Congress in Kuala Lumpur will address the key challenges faced by business today, from the economic impact of climate change to the impact of globalization on small to medium-sized enterprises. The event will also delve into other major issues facing business: corporate governance, counterfeiting, plus how to develop young entrepreneurs and empower women in business.
This forum is the premier global meeting ground among chambers and business executives. “The Congress helps chamber executives build the personal networks they need to exchange expertise and to better serve their Small and Medium Enterprises members,” said Rona Yircali, Chair, World Chambers Federation.
During three intense days of plenaries and workshops, the Congress will be a virtual showroom of chamber excellence, with sessions illustrating the best examples of how chambers are leading growth and change in their communities, and how they are facilitating partnerships between government and business.
“Kuala Lumpur is pleased to welcome the World Chambers Congress, we will showcase what our vibrant city has to offer” said Puan Normah Malik, Deputy General (Administration) speaking on behalf of Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Abdul Hakim Borhan, Director General of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL). The mayor plans to host a gala dinner for delegates during the Congress.
The World Chambers Congress has grown in size and stature since its inception and has become a heavily sought-after event to host. Bids to stage the Congress have been received as far out as 2017.
