ICC YAF: Investment Arbitration in Challenging Times – Issue Conflicts and the Problem of Legitimacy

Frankfurt, Germany, • English

The ICC Young Arbitrators Forum (ICC YAF) is organizing an event in Frankfurt that will take place during the Frankfurt Investment Moot. The conference, kindly hosted and sponsored by Allen & Overy, will take place on 7 March 2017.

In recent years, parties to investment arbitration proceedings have increasingly sought to disqualify arbitrators. One constellation that is said to justify a disqualification is that of a so-called issue conflict. The term refers to situations in which an arbitrator’s impartiality is lacking because of his or her prior involvement with related cases or issues. The event will explore to which extent issue conflicts can justify the disqualification of arbitrators – and how such disqualifications may affect the legitimacy of investment arbitration as a whole. This ICC YAF event will take place during the Frankfurt Investment Moot.

The ICC YAF Conference will be an ideal forum for young practitioners to exchange thoughts on international arbitration, and to enrich their network in the region.

Who should attend

This conference is aimed at young arbitration practitioners of approximately 40 years and under: counsel, arbitrators, corporate counsel or academics.
