11:00 – 12:00:Debate: Younger, quicker and available

Is this arbitrator available? – Or your chance to have a member of the panel who really has time for your case is spoilt at the inception? Do you really want a quick arbitrator – and if so, at what cost? Will the solution to all of your problems with slow, busy and unreachable arbitrators be to appoint someone young, fresh and bright-eyed (and inexperienced). This debate between three arbitration practitioners will bring you to the bottom of the key questions you ask yourself each time you appoint an arbitrator.

12:00 – 12:30Debate and Q&A
12:30 – 14:00Lunch
14:00 – 15:00Interactive Session – World Café

World Café is an interactive format which allows all delegates to participate actively in a series of simultaneous debates. Delegates will be invited to join different groups animated by ICC YAF Regional Representatives to discuss a variety of hot topics including:

1.    A set of rules for secretaries to tribunals: do we need one and what should be stated there?

2.    Better late than never – when a party shall loose a right to object to procedural irregularities?

3.    What to put in (and what not to put in) in Procedural Order No. 1?

4.    Ethics and “Guerilla” tactics: How to attack (and defend) the integrity and efficiency of an arbitration?

5.    Should arbitral tribunals ask the parties whether they receive third party funding?

6.    The arbitration community would be healthier if we did away with party-appointed arbitrators. Yes or no?

7.    We have an emergency – should we call for an emergency arbitrator?

8.    Terms of reference – ancient relic or useful tool?

9.    Mediation is shorter, cheaper and more efficient. Why don’t we use it more often?

10. Med-arb and Arb-med: should your arbitrator become your mediator (or vice versa)?

15:00 – 15:30Debate and Q&A
15:30 – 15:45Coffee Break
15:45 – 16:45Workshop: How to build a career in arbitration?

This lively and interactive workshop will tackle key questions such as “how to market yourself?”, “how to raise your profile at the junior, mid or more senior level?”, “how to get a fist arbitrator appointment?”, “how to steadily develop counsel work within your firm?” Speakers will share their experience and provide the audience with useful tips and advice. Active participation from the audience will be encouraged!
