ICC Turkey Arbitration Day

The International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) jointly with ICC Turkey and in cooperation with TOBB are organizing an Arbitration Day in Istanbul.


The conference aims to contribute to the development of international commercial and investment arbitration in Turkey, to promote Istanbul as a place for dispute resolution as well as the work of Turkish arbitration practitioners on the domestic and international levels.

This conference will provide the participants with the updates on latest trends in ICC arbitration and an opportunity for networking with the Turkish professional community.

Speakers will address gender diversity in their respective businesses and jurisdictions. They will provide examples on female/male employee ratios, female/male partner/manager ratios and their own experiences when it comes to dispute resolution. They will also discuss real-life examples on how diversity, or lack thereof, can affect dispute resolution.

14:00 – 15:15Meeting with Judges: Arbitration and the Courts.

Judges from the Istanbul Commercial Courts and Courts of Appeal dealing with arbitration will address perceptions of arbitration vs/ court litigation;  discuss the relevance of that debate in the future of Turkish dispute resolution.

In this respect, what is the impact on the reception of international arbitral awards by the Turkish judiciary? Particular emphasis will be placed on the expectations from lawyers and users

15:15 – 16:30Arbitrating construction disputes: Realities and hints.

The construction industry is one of the main engines fuelling Turkish economy. Speakers will discuss the recent challenges faced in the construction industry, recurrent issues experienced by parties (joint ventures, multiparty arbitration, joinder and jurisdiction issues), typical disputes going to arbitration, and the reasons why the leading players in the field prefer arbitration and ADR over litigation.

16:45 – 18:00Dispute Resolution in Turkey: Challenges & Opportunities.

Speakers will discuss their own experiences as Turkish dispute resolution practitioners and attempt to identify changes encountered during the last decade. They will address the evolution of arbitration in Turkey and advise on additional steps that should be taken in order to improve that process.
