Vacancy with the Secretariat of the ICC International Court of Arbitration representative office for the MENA region – Abu Dhabi Global Market, UAE

As a leading international arbitral institution, the ICC International Court of Arbitration (“Court”) attracts a growing arbitration caseload from all over the world. Cases are administered by specialised teams with knowledge of and experience in the major legal and cultural traditions.

The Secretariat of the Court (“Secretariat”) is setting up a new case management team in Abu Dhabi Global Market, UAE. The team will deal principally with Middle East jurisdictions. It will be headed by a Counsel, assisted by a Deputy Counsel, and an assistant.

Applications are invited for the position of Deputy Counsel for the new case management team based in Abu Dhabi Global Market, UAE.

Deputy Counsel report to the Counsel of the team.

The role of Deputy Counsel involves both legal and administrative tasks including:

  • Reviewing and processing requests for arbitration and other documents filed by parties, arbitrators and others during arbitration proceedings
  • Preparing agendas (memoranda) briefing the Court on decisions it is required to take
  • Correspondence and telephone conversations with parties and arbitral tribunals concerning all aspects of case management
  • Answering general queries about the ICC arbitral process by telephone and in writing
  • Monitoring the financial aspects of the arbitrations handled by the team
  • Participating in the promotion of ICC Arbitration in the region

On occasion Deputy Counsel may be required to undertake special tasks at the invitation of the Secretary General, Deputy Secretary General, Managing Counsel or Counsel.

Applicants should be recently qualified lawyers with professional experience in a legal environment. A formal legal qualification (i.e. Bar exam or equivalent) is not, however, essential if a candidate can demonstrate sufficient legal training and experience in international arbitration, international and/or commercial law.

Candidates must be well organised, have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work effectively in a multicultural team.

Proficiency in oral and written English is essential. Fluency in written and oral Arabic is highly desirable. All other language skills are an advantage.
