The ICC Chair, his immediate predecessor and the Vice-Chairs form the Chairmanship, all serving two-year terms.

The Secretary General heads the International Secretariat in Paris to carry out ICC’s work programme.

  Ajay BANGA

Chair, ICC

Ajay Banga was elected First Vice-Chair of ICC on 21 June 2018. Ajay Banga is chief executive officer of Mastercard and a member of its board of directors. Prior to Mastercard, Mr Banga served as Chief Executive Officer of Citigroup Asia Pacific, and served as a member of President Obama’s Commission on Enhancing National Cybersecurity and a past member of the US President’s Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations. He is also a member of the board of overseers of the Weill Cornell Medical College, and a director of Dow Inc. and member of its compensation and governance committees.

Maria Fernanda GARZA

First Vice-Chair

Ms Garza has served as an ICC Executive Board member since 2014 and is the ICC Regional Coordinator for the Americas and a member of the governing body of the ICC International Court of Arbitration. A strong advocate of business ethics and corporate governance standards, Ms Garza was Chair of ICC Mexico until June 2020 and is a former member of the International Affairs Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Labour and former member of the National Advisory Committee of ACLAN. Ms Garza was Vice-President of the Confederation of Employers of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) and was also a member of the Compliance Committee of Infonavit. She is a Board Member of the Corporate Responsibility Alliance AliaRSE and was a member of the Corporate Responsibility Network of the Business and Industry Advisory Committee to the OECD.

Yassin AL SUROOR

Vice-Chair, ICC

Yassin Al Suroor is the founder and the Executive Chairman of A’amal group he is also board member of various regional and international companies. He is the chair of A’amal Foundation, Chair of A’amal Capital Limited and sits on the executive committee of ICC World Chambers Federation.

Cherie NURSALIM

Vice-Chair

Cherie Nursalim was elected ICC Vice-Chair on 29 May 2019 having served as a member of the ICC Executive Board since 2013. Ms Nursalim is Vice-Chair of GITI Group, Singapore, a diversified group with real estate development, manufacturing and consumer lifestyle presence partnering with world‐renowned brands throughout the Asia Pacific region. A member of several boards including, Publicis Groupe, the ICC Research Foundation and the ICC Academy, Ms Nursalim also serves on the Business and Sustainable Development Commission global Blended Finance Taskforce and the Women’s World Banking Southeast Asia Advisory Council, and sits on the Leadership Council of the United Nations global initiative Sustainable Development Solutions Network.

Paul POLMAN

Honorary Chair, ICC

Paul Polman was elected Chair of ICC on 21 June 2018. The CEO of Unilever from 2009 to January 2019, Mr Polman has played a significant role first in developing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and now in promoting action towards their delivery as a member of the SDG Advocacy Group. He is a member of the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum, a member of the B Team and sits on the Board of the UN Global Compact as Vice Chair, and the Consumer Goods Forum, where he co-chairs the Sustainability Committee. He has also been Chair of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.

ICC First Vice-Chairman FJohn W.H. DENTON John W.H. DENTON AO

ICC Secretary General

John W.H. Denton AO became Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in 2018. He is a global business leader and international advisor on policy and a legal expert on international trade and investment. Mr Denton is a Board member of the United Nations Global Compact, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) impact investing group and the United Nations Children’s Fund’s (UNICEF) GenU project and is a founding member of the Business 20 (B20), the Australia–China CEO Roundtable and is Patron of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in Australia. Mr Denton serves on the Board of leading global infrastructure group IFM Investors and is Chair of the Asia Pacific Advisory Council of Veracity WorldWide. He co-led the Australian Government’s 2012 White Paper on “Australia in the Asian Century”, the review of Australia’s Development Assistance program and previously chaired the APEC Finance and Economics Working Group. A former diplomat, Mr Denton served for two decades as Partner and Chief Executive Officer of Corrs Chambers Westgarth, Australia’s leading independent law firm, and continues to serve the firm as Honorary Chair of its Global Council. In 2015, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for his services to the business community, the arts and the rights of refugees, including as a founder of Human Rights Watch (Australia) and Teach for Australia. Mr Denton is an alumnus of Harvard Business School and the University of Melbourne.
